December 12 - 3:25 pm
A room has been secured for a special practice for the Dec. 21st performance. We'll meet this Wednesday, December 14th, from 1:00-2:30 pm. We'll be in the Huntsville Library on the 2nd floor but not in the Activities Room where we usually meet. Instead, we'll be in the Library Foundation Room which is located on the right-hand side of the second floor.
Here are the updated playlists for our Wednesday, Dec. 14, rehearsal at the Library. Numerous minor changes have been made to the songsheets, and the order of songs has changed. The word processing documents and individual PDF files are also available.
Please let me know immediately if you find any error or discrepancy so that corrections can be published to everyone before the rehearsal on Wednesday or our Zoom Jam on Sunday, Dec. 18.
This Playlist will be emailed to everyone in the next few minutes. If you did not receive a copy by email, please let me know so that the mailing list can be updated.
December 10
Here is an updated playlist for the Dec. 21 performance. The number of songs has been reduced pending further editing. This is the playlist we will use tomorrow during our rehearsal at the Library (2nd Floor Activities Room, 2:00 - 3:30 pm). If there are any additional songs, they will be emailed to the group and posted here.
December 6 - 10:45 am
The updated Playlist for the Dec. 21 performance is now available. Numerous changes were made but most were minor. A Change Log is being posted to help you "keep track of the players." Finally, compressed files of the PDF files and of the word processing files are also available.
See you tomorrow at the Huntsville Senior Center (1 pm - 2:30 pm).
Plus the two items posted earlier:
December 6 - 6:45 am
As promised, "Christmas in Dixie" in five different keys. We'll decide on a performance key on Wednesday at the Senior Center. FYI, in our Christmas Songbook, the 'group preferred key' is the key of C. It would probably be a good idea to listen to the song first and then try out the various keys.
The worksheet with YouTube links, tempo, and time signatures has been updated. No guarantees but it's the best shot at this time. Let me know if you come up with better information.
Work is progressing on updated song sheets for the Dec. 21 performance. Updated song sheets will be posted as soon as possible.
December 2
Additional changes have been made to the Christmas Playlist for Dec. 21, and more changes are possible. If you print this playlist, I'd recommend printing on one side of the page rather than double-sided printing. This is the version that we will go with on Sunday during our Zoom Jam, although additional individual sheets may become available.
On Dec. 21, we will be playing at:
First United Methodist Church,
Fellowship Hall
120 Greene St SE
Huntsville, AL
35801
We begin playing at 10 am; please arrive by 9:30.
November 20
Changes made to many of the song sheets to get them in line with the versions played by the Hula Strummers. Additional songs are pending. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to get these out yesterday morning; I was a bit under the weather yesterday.

Here's the playlist for the Senior Center ukulele group and the UkeQuestors for the next couple of weeks as we prepare to play at the ARC of Huntsville on Dec. 21 with Kirk. Additional songs will be added later (as Christmas Playlist #2).
And here is a separate copy of the only song not currently in the Christmas Songbook:

Notes concerning "The Coventry Carol"
This hymn commemorates the Massacre of the Innocents, whose feast day is Dec. 28 in several Western churches (although it varies for other churches).
The author is unknown; the oldest known text was written down by Robert Croo in 1534, and the oldest known setting of the melody dates from 1591.
This incident is recounted in the nativity narrative of the Gospel of Matthew 2:16–18 in which Herod the Great, king of Judea, orders the execution of all male children two years old and under in the vicinity of Bethlehem. They were considered the first martyrs of the Christian church.
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
"In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not."
The citation is to Jeremiah 31:15. Source: Matthew 2:16–18, King James Version.
For more information, see The Coventry Carol, Wikipedia; The Coventry Carol (Sharp, 1825), The Hymns and Carols of Christmas; Notes to The Coventry Carol, The Hymns and Carols of Christmas. And see generally The Hymns Of The Holy Innocents, The Hymns and Carols of Christmas.
Notes concerning "Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming"
This traditional Advent carol would be an excellent start to any Christmas Eve or Christmas Day service: Lo, How A Rose E’er Blooming (in C & G). It is based on a 15th century anonymous German hymn "Es ist ein Ros entsprungen", translated by Theodore Baker (1894) and Harriet Reynolds Kraugh (1875). The tune is "Es Ist Ein Ros" (1599), harmonization by Michael Praetorius (1609). And check out this version from the Ukulele Band of Alabama website, Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming.
